Location shoots are ideal for family groups, special occasions such as engagement and pre-wedding. Also family christenings or parties, commercial environmental images and portfolio building for, model, actors and actresses.

The Shoot

On the day of the shoot you can bring a variety of outfits/accessories/props that suit the looks and ideas you want to go for. If you’re not sure exactly what styles of photo you want, we can discuss it, either on the day of the shoot or on the phone beforehand. When you arrive, we’ll discuss the outfits/looks/ideas. We’ll do some warm-up shots to get you comfortable in front of the camera, and then proceed with the shoot. The photos always get better and better as we go along as you relax and discover the whole process is fun!

With each outfit/idea there will be a different lighting setup, we can also change the background colour, and you’ll get a chance to review the pics we’ve just taken to make sure you’re happy before moving on to the next look.

Clothes make the portrait

A few tips on things to do

·wear solid coloured clothing

·choose muted tones that are a bit subdued

·choose similar tones for your top and bottom (both dark and both light)

·choose 1-3 colours for your group portrait, ones with similar tones that go nicely together and have everyone work within that colour palette. For example: dark green, navy, and burgundy – all dark jewel tones.  OR tan, a lighter olive green, and denims – all lighter, softer tones.

·choose a top with sleeves at least to the elbow

·choose long pants for men/ladies or a skirt below the knee for ladies

·choose dark socks and footwear (unless it’s a barefoot photo on the beach)

·keep jewellery simple and minimalistic

Clothes can Break the portrait

A few tips on things NOT to do.

• Avoid anything with logos, graphics, characters, labels, etc. These tend to take the “finished” look of a professional portrait down a few notches, can be distracting (who wants people to first notice the Nike or Gap logo before the adorable little kid’s smile?) and will date a photo quickly. Note: There are a few instances where a more stylized graphic on a shirt can look good if it fits the vibe of a photo.

• While trying to stay current and fashionable, do avoid obvious trends that will be dated soon. You can do fashion forward while still remaining timeless.

• Avoid strong overpowering colours e.g. Reds
